Dr Kanal is the director of MR services and chief of the Division of Emergency Radiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He is a past chair of the ACR Committee on MR Safety, the first author of the ACR MR Safety White Papers and Guidance Documents (2002–2013) and the ACR Manual on MR Safety (2020), and the founder and past president of the American Board of Magnetic Resonance Safety.
